According to various reports, Google is currently in talks with HTC in order to buy its smartphone business.

A Taiwanese media outlet Commercial Times reported that Google and HTC have been talking for quite some time and it seems like that Google will soon acquire HTC’s smartphone division. However, the news has still not been made public and it’s still not known how much Google may buy HTC for.

However, people believe this deal to be fishy as the tech giant Google has bad history of buying a mobile company. Back in 2012 Google bought Motorola for $12.5 billion and sold it to Lenovo for $2.9 billion after two years in 2014, resulting in loss of billions of dollars, reported Business Insider.

HTC was once a thriving smartphone company that declined in recent years. Though releasing HTC10 and U11 recently, the phones failed to mark their place in the market. The company also launched a separate division that sells virtual reality headsets.

HTC already makes ‘Pixel’ smartphones for Google that could mean the deal would be beneficial for Google as it continues to cater to consumers with its ‘Pixel’ smartphone brand, making Google more technologically advanced.

According to Tech Juice, apart from HTC’s smartphone business that Google will acquire, the rest of its divisions would function normally.

However, Google and HTC personals refused to comment on this matter.
