Opposition asked to support Kerry-Lugar bill

Senior Provincial Minister and PPP Parliamentary Leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmed has said that PPP, Punjab, has announced its full support to the Kerry-Lugar Bill and endorsed the efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari. He expressed his views while addressing a press conference held here, on Wednesday.
Raja Riaz Ahmed lauded the successful tour of President Zardari to the USA in which he was not only able to upgrade the soft image of Pakistan, but also successfully convince the international leaders about the importance of the country being a front line state to fight against terrorism. He further said that the grant, being given under Kerry-Lugar Bill, would help achieve set targets in the sectors of education, health, employment, social security and economic development.
He said, "In the present circumstance when we are facing hardships in electricity, water, gas and other resources, this grant becomes more vital, therefore, the achievements of President Asif Ali Zardari in this regard should be appreciated."
Condemning the propaganda against Kerry-Lugar Bill by the opposition, the senior minister said that this negative attitude is neither in favour of country nor good for the masses of Pakistan. He appealed all the political parties to strengthen hands of President Asif Ali Zardari in creating a soft and positive image of Pakistan in the comity of nations.
On the occasion, Punjab Irrigation minister said that the Federal government, by accepting adjournment motion in National Assembly, presented by the opposition and started debate on Kerry-Lugar Bill to meet a democratic requirement. He appealed the opposition to end the policy of opposition for the sake of opposition and adopt a unified stance in the vast national interest.
