Government urged to ensure gas supply to power generation plants of Faisalabad

08 Oct, 2009

The sudden disconnection of gas supply to the captive power generation plants of Faisalabad by SNGPL is a sheer violation of the trade and textile policies announced by the government, the Senior Vice President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), Muhammad Ayub Mughal said this here, on Wednesday, while talking to newsmen.
He said that the FCCI was already on the verge of collapse due to high mark up rates and severe energy crisis and the sudden shutdown of gas supply would add fuel to the fire.
He mentioned that Faisalabad industrial sector was contributing significantly in the government exchequer. Whereby, about 54 percent of exports are routed directly/indirectly from this city. In the present scenario, the closure of industry in Faisalabad shall result in joblessness of thousands of labour working in these industrial units.
In this regard, the Senior Vice President, FCCI appealed to the Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Federal Ministers for Petroleum and Gas, Textile Industry and Commerce to probe into the matter and resolve the issue on priority basis. Moreover, he asked the government authorities to ensure the continuous supply of gas and electricity to the textile sector to meet the targets set in the textile policy.
