Bears dominate grain market

Bears dominated the wholesale grain market on Thursday as supplies from the upcountry market was steady in process of trading, dealers said. On the cereals side, sugar lost Rs 200 to Rs 4500, Gur followed the suit and dropped the same amount at Rs 5800-6400 and Khandsari also shed the same amount at Rs 5800, they said.
On grams side, gram dal was lower by Rs 100 to Rs 3700-3900, grams 50x50 shed Rs 25 to Rs 3225-3425, yellow peas Canada also dropped the same amount at Rs 2675-2825 and yellow peas dall Canada low type lost Rs 125 to Rs 2975 and better type shed Rs 50 to Rs 3050, they said.
A solo deal was reported on the rice sector, where Irri-white low type was down by Rs 25 to Rs 1300 and fine quality was lower by Rs 50 to Rs 1500, other types maintained the overnight levels in process of trading, they added. Some rice sellers said that instead of increase in rates, the rates were falling due to lessening the purchasing power among the masses and also from the foreign countries on global recession.
