Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday took suo moto notice on a report of a newspaper about the abduction of 27-year old Abid Hussain. According to the report, the poor vegetable vendor Abid Hussain was allegedly kidnapped by his employer in 2004 after a salary row at Sadiq welding workshop Bagrian, Lahore.
Sadiq Ali did not pay wages to Abid for five months. In reaction Abid Hussain lodged a compliant with PS Green Town but instead of taking action against Sadiq Ali police registered theft case against Abid and his father.
Lahore High Court took notice of case and found the allegations baseless and told police to quash the case. It was further reported that after some days Sadiq Ali along with his accomplices Arif and Fiaz reached Abid's village and bundled him into a car and took him to an undisclosed location. A report by PPO was submitted and CJP directed for follow up report from PPO Punjab for 15 October.
The Chief Justice, in another suo motu notice, directed the Judge Anti-Narcotics Court, Rawalpindi to dispose a pending case against husband of a woman within two months. He had taken notice on a report another newspaper, published on 27 April. In the report a desperate woman appealed to CJP to help her secure release of her daily wager husband who she said had been implicated in fake narcotics smuggling case.
