Gojra incident: LHC Registrar sends inquiry report to Punjab government

Registrar of Lahore High Court (LHC) Tahir Pervaiz has sent inquiry report of Gojra incident to the Punjab government. According to a press statement, the unfortunate incident took place at Gojra on 1-08-2009 and the competent authority had appointed Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman as one man inquiry tribunal on 2-08-2009 for finding out facts about the sad episode.
A full-fledged campaign was mounted on electronic and print media for creating awareness amongst the people so that they could appear before the Tribunal for recording the statements. The administration of Gojra was also directed to get the announcement in local churches and local mosques if the vicinity to sensitise the people qua the announcement of the inquiry proceedings and their participation therein.
Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman commenced inquiry proceedings on 3-08-2009 by visiting the place of happening and later on held day-to-day inquiry proceedings at his Camp Office at Gojra. The Tribunal held proceedings at Principal Seat of the LHC only for couple of days for recording statements of local officials. The Tribunal recorded statements of 580 affected as well as voluntary witnesses and it took two months to complete comprehensive report.
