Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA-North Zone) has said that there is a dire need to create awareness among the general public about the importance of eggs for human life. Pakistan's per capita consumption of egg is only 40-45 eggs per annum whereas consumption in developed countries is over 300 eggs per annum.
This was sated by the Raza Mehmood Khursand, Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association while addressing a press conference here on Friday on the eve of 'World Egg Day'. He was accompanied by Khalid Saleem Malik, Dr Arshad Hanif and others.
They said that poultry at present contributes 40 percent of the total meat consumption and generates employment and income for about fifteen hundred thousands people. Poultry is the cheapest available protein source for masses, they added.
Khursand said that Pakistan Poultry Association is celebrating World Egg Day by organising seminars in different areas to make the general public aware about the nutritional values of eggs. Raza Khursand informed the media that the poultry industry was producing 6250 million table eggs annually and per capital consumption was only 40-45 eggs per annum.
