11 Sep, 2017

The SHC bench headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, put off the hearing till October 3 after it was requested by the petitioner's counsel to hear the case on urgent basis.

The case is pending for a long period and the next general election is scheduled for next year, the case should be decided at the earliest, the counsel requested.

Earlier, Atta Muhammad Chandio, the petitioner and a voter of NA-235 constituency in Sanghar, accused Shazia Marri of submitting somebody else's degree for contesting the elections.

He had submitted in the petition that PPP MNA Shazia Jannat Marri had produced degree of another Shazia, daughter of Atta Muhammad, before Election Commission of Pakistan while contesting the election in 2013.

"That particular degree was issued to Shazia, daughter of Atta Muhammad who completed her graduation from Raunaq Islam College Lyari, affiliated with University of Karachi.

Whereas Shazia Marri never attended that college," the petitioner added.

The petitioner had submitted that Shazia Marri not only made the offence but also cheated the voters and she is liable to be disqualified. The petitioner requested the court to disqualify her as member of the assembly for submitting the 'fake degree'.
