The Association of Women for Awareness and Motivation (AWAM Pakistan), Healthlink World-wide-UK and the Association for Women with Disabilities (AWWD India) have jointly organised a four-day leadership training for women with disabilities.
The trainers of the workshop included David Curtis (Healthlink-UK), Kuhu Das (AWWD-India), Naseem Anthony (AWAM-Pakistan), Iftikhar Ahmad (ASDP), Shazia George (AWAM Pakistan), and also attended by a good number of Muslim and Christian participants from Pakistan and Afghanistan. This workshop was the part of a regional initiative "Creating Spaces for Women with Disabilities to communicate and advocate for their rights".
According to the AWAM's spokesman, the prime objective of the workshop was to impart the leadership skills among women with disabilities in Pakistan in order to minimise the culture of dependency by ignoring their inner abilities. He said that all the participants called upon the government to accept their demands.
