Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered to accelerate the pace of construction of Lahore-Gujranwala dual carriageway N-5 and completion of the project within stipulated period. He directed the Ministry of Communication and National Highway Authority to submit a report within a month with regard to the measures taken for the execution of the project.
He issued orders in response to a letter written by the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif regarding the delay in the construction of carriageway N-5 and the problems being faced by the people. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister had brought to the notice of the PM the delay in the construction of carriageway N-5 and requested him to issue orders to the Ministry of Communication and National Highway Authority to ensure early completion of the highway.
The carriageway N-5 is an important road that links central Punjab and connects provincial metropolis with the federal capital. Due to the incomplete work the road was facing dilapidation and a number of precious lives had been lost in accidents. Moreover, the delay in the project had seriously hampered social and economic activities in the nearby cities, towns and villages.
