Bilour elected Senate commerce body chief

17 Oct, 2009

Senator Ilyas Bilour was on Friday elected as Chairman of Senate standing committee on commerce, considered to be one of the most important senate committees. Captain Rasheed Abro, Chairman of Pakistan Ship Agents Association, conveying this information told Business Recorder that one of the foremost tasks of the new chairman would be to ensure implementation of Trade Organisation Ordinance and Rules and stall bad practices in elections of Chambers and Federation.
He congratulated Bilour on assuming new responsibilities and expressed hope that, being a former president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), he would devote his energies to cleansing the trade bodies of the malpractices used in the elections of Chambers and the Federation.
Abro said that being a former president of FPCCI, Bilour is the most suitable person who can "deliver the goods", and nobody else understands the problems of the members of business community as he does. Besides national politics, he understands trade politics better than anybody else.
He expressed hope that the Chambers and Federation would be given their due status and would now be managed by genuine and experienced persons so that they are able to play an effective role in providing correct feedback to the government on the state of the country's economy and how to get over the present stalemate.
