The Chairman of Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), Khalid Mirza, has said that the media has played a very positive role in pointing out follies in various avenues and has tremendously contributed towards keeping a check on corruption.
Talking to Business Recorder here on Sunday, he said that the report presented before the Supreme Court on October 16, 2009 had criticised the way in which the government handled the issue of sugar crisis in the country.
He said that all stakeholders had appreciated the report, and Secretary, Finance, was asked by the Supreme Court to study it for making policy on sugar prices. The report emphasised not to fix sugar price, and let the market forces determine the price of this commodity. "I have the highest regard for Pakistani media and, without any doubt, it is one of the best in the world", he said, and added: "I believe in the quality of Pakistan's journalism, and have the highest regard for the country's media men."
