Basis bids for hard red winter wheat in the US Plains held steady Tuesday, with winter wheat seeding progressing. USDA said on Monday the US winter wheat crop was 69 percent planted, with the top growing state of Kansas 73 percent planted. The new crop was 48 percent emerged, USDA said.
Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City dropped 3 cents a bushel for 12.00 percent and 12.20 percent protein wheat supplies, dropped 2 cents for 12.40-pro wheat and 1 cent for 12.60-pro wheat supplies. A rally in futures prices on Monday sparked more producer selling. Kansas City Board of Trade wheat futures were expected to open mixed Tuesday after the KCBT December ended up 18-1/4 cents at $5.28-3/4 per bushel.
