22 Oct, 2009

General Secretary Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Liaquat Baloch has announced that JI would hold referendum through out the country on October 23 (tomorrow) on the Kerry-Lugar Bill. America wanted to take control of the country with the help of Kerry-Lugar Bill, he said while addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club, here on Wednesday. He said that the explanatory statement attached with the bill has no legal position.
The rulers were imposing the bill by creating fear among the people. While answering a question, he said that there was wedge between the people and the army due to the on going military operation in South Waziristan. The gap between army and people could not be bridged by the state-sponsored rallies, he added.
He condemned the attack on International Islamic University Islamabad and said suicide attacks were prohibited in Islam. He further said that JI was against any act, which was against freedom of expression and human rights. He demanded that government should adopt an independent foreign policy.
