South Korea's KJ Choi marked his return to the Asian Tour with a four-stroke victory at the weather-hit Johor Open on Sunday. Choi posted an eight-under-par 64 in the third round for a 20-under total of 196 in an event reduced to 54 holes. Thai Chapchai Nirat (66) was second on 200 after thrilling the galleries with three delightful chip-ins.
Defending champion Retief Goosen of South Africa shot a 62 to finish joint third on 201 with Himmat Rai of India (70). It was a memorable return for Choi, who plays regularly in the US and has won seven times on the PGA Tour.
"It is not easy to win on the Asian Tour. The depth of talent here is very deep," Choi told reporters after hitting eight birdies in a bogey-free round. The Korean made a spectacular par save at the 15th after his tee shot found water, holing a chip from 10 yards.
