Compensation for anti-terrorism drive: provinces agree to provide special package to NWFP

30 Oct, 2009

Punjab Finance Minister, Ashraf Kaira Thursday said that the stance of NWFP that special package be given to the province under NFC Award for compensating losses it suffered due to war against terrorism has been agreed by other provinces.
Talking to newsmen at Governor House, venue of NFC meeting, Ashraf Kaira said Punjab government realises that NWFP has suffered great loss due to country's war against terrorism. However, he added, compensation for losses due to combating terrorism does not come in the purview of NFC Awards and in this regard, he added, the federal government should provide a special package to the province.
He also expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far during the meetings of National Finance Commission. Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister also supported the view point of Punjab Finance Minister and said that NWFP needs compensation and federal government should provide special fund to it or made it part of resources distribution under the NFC award.
