University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) is planning to offer a degree programme in Agricultural Journalism in order to meet the emerging challenges in the field of agricultural extension. Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan revealed while talking to the Director Agricultural Information Punjab, Muhammad Rafique Akhtar on Saturday.
Dr Khan said that media was booming industry and grabbing attention of masses in Pakistan that is why UAF intends to introduce degree programme in agricultural journalism in accordance with the demand of society. He maintained that the UAF has solid infrastructure keeping in view the pre-requisites of initiation of agricultural journalism programme, which had not been introduced yet in any public and private university of Pakistan.
He directed the senior faculty members of Division of Education and Extension to develop curriculum according to international standards. Akhtar highlighted the significance of agricultural journalism and said that many public and private sector organisations, seed, fertiliser and agricultural input agencies and advertising agencies were looking for agricultural journalism degree holders for the fulfilment of their promotional campaigns.
He also urged the need for short-term and long-term diploma courses and in service training programmes for agricultural graduates. Dr Tanveer Ali and Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications also attended the meeting.
