Weak leadership

02 Nov, 2009

Since assumption of office of Presidency, Asif Zardari has not been able to solve the problems faced by the country. At the very outset of his presidentship he was confronted with the case of reinstatement of Supreme Court Judges, which he took several months to solve and that too under pressure. The second issue which he faces is Local Bodies Elections.
The tenure of present local bodies has expired. Majority of provinces is in favour of old system whereas parties in Sindh are divided over this issue. Though several high level meetings have been held among head of political parties but there is no consensus. Even the intervention of Asif Zardari has not yielded any breakthrough although he has the power to override the objection of parties opposing old system. This unnecessary delay in not taking a final decision over the issue of LB poll is yet another proof of his inability to act when called upon to do so.
Today, Pakistan is engulfed in terror war at the behest of America. At this critical juncture a very bold wise and popular leadership is needed to steer the country out of woods and thus save Pakistan from internal and external dangers.
