The SITE Association of Industry (SAI) and Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) decided on Monday to launch a data collection campaign to check the revenue earned by the industries, situated in SITE and KIA, and their contribution to the national and provincial exchequer. The purpose of the data collection is also to find out their share in GDP of SITE and KIA.
In this connection the SAI has constituted a committee comprising of office bearers, Sanaullah and Ali Ahmed, who will collect the data. The date will also help Export Development Finance (EDF) in increasing exports. The SAI will also take help from Pakistan Steel Mills Association (PPMA) in getting export figures and other relevant data.
Both SAI and KATI are claiming that they represent the biggest industrial areas and largest industrial units of the city. Chairman KATI, Razzajk Hashim Paracha said that the association has decided to collect date of number of industries working in the area and their contribution to national exchequer. SITE is designated as an industrial area in 1963, and claimed to be the largest Industrial area of Pakistan, encompassing 4,700 acres of land.
It contains approximately 2,400 factories. While, Korangi industrial area is one of the biggest industrial areas of Pakistan, which was established in mid 60s and made operational in 1970 and it has modern infrastructure.
It is consisting of medium and large size industries, which has many industries like textile, steel, pharmaceutical, automobile, chemical, engineering and flour mills. The industrial area spread over an area of 8500 acres. According to a rough estimate more than 4500 industrial, commercial, and service concerns operate here providing employment to roughly two-three lac workers.
