PPP Secretary Information Fouzia Wahab on Monday said the NRO bill would be tabled in the National Assembly during the current week, saying the ordinance carried very "useful" articles. Talking to journalists here at Parliament House, she said PPP had regards for advice of MQM leader Altaf Hussain, but it was upto the nation to decide who would benefit from the efforts being made to destabilise the government.
"We respect the advice of MQM Chief. We are trying to understand. You know, the country is facing worst kind of terrorism today. Now who would benefit from these efforts being made to destabilise the PPP government," she said. She said the past regimes had lodged 13 cases against Asif Ali Zardari, which could not be proved in any court of law. About SGS and Cotecna case, Fouzia said the apex court had set aside the lower court verdict in the that case.
The PPP information secretary said the impacts of November 3 acts had faded away and the independent judiciary had been restored while the media was free and there were no curbs and the democratic institutions were functioning. Fouzia Wahab said Blasphemy Law and Hudood Ordinance were discriminatory laws. However, no one was raising these issues while NRO was being blasted for nothing. "There are good things in the NRO. Even its one clause had helped conduct transparent elections in February 2008 and there were minimal complaints about the general elections due to the same clause," she remarked.
