03 Nov, 2009

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has categorically ruled out possibility of imposition of martial law in the country. He was talking to media outside Punjab assembly on Monday evening. He said that the NRO was a stigma and the public can ask for resignation from any competent authority. "An approval of the NRO from the National Assembly would be a great tragedy," he said.
On sugar prices, he said that sugar prices have nothing to do with good governance and it is purely a free market phenomenon. Nevertheless, he said that the PML-N respects the Judiciary and measures are being taken to ensure sale of sugar at Rs 40 per kg. The Punjab Opposition Leader Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-din criticised undue delay in the start of assembly session, causing anxiety among members.
He said that the PML would support a resolution against the NRO from the PML-N. According to him, the rice exporters were facing colossal losses due to ill-planned government policies. Passco has also pointed out lose on cultivation. He said that Punjab government has not initiated any mega-project and it was simply replacing the PML plaques on old projects, which is deplorable.
