The Ministry of Special Education (MOSE) is paying a hefty amount of Rs 4,68,987 a month as rent for the Special Education Centres running in different districts of the country. Up to 20 Special Education Centres are still running in the rented buildings in different districts of the country, paying Rs 8000 to 50000 per month, official sources confirmed.
They pointed that non-provision of land by the provincial ministries is the main hurdle in establishing Special Education and Training Centre. They said that the Special Education Centre Gujranwala is paying Rs 29296 per month, centre in Dera Ghazi Khan paying Rs 18000, centre in Rahim Yar Khan, Rs 28000, centre in Jhelum, Rs 13310, centre in Rawalpindi, Rs 50000, centre in Bahawalpur, Rs 15,000, centre in Sialkot, Rs 20000, centre in Multan, Rs 30,000, centre in Sargodha, Rs 45000.
Special Education Centre in Skeikhupura is paying Rs 17187, centre in Gujrat, Rs 20,000, centre in Mirpur Khas, Rs 19375, centre in Dadu, Rs 9633, centre in Sukkur, Rs 14813, IPHC centre, Quetta, Rs 15073, VTCDP Quetta, Rs 23300, centre in Charsadda, Rs 30,000, centre in Kohat, Rs 14,000, centre in Dera Ismail Khan, Rs 25,000 and Special Education Centre in Swat is paying Rs 32000.
Furthermore, sources said that complete facilities could not be provided in the centres running in the rented buildings because of restrictions placed by the landowners. They lamented that all of this has not only resulted in extra burden on the budget of the ministry, but also has created problems for special persons.
