The lawyers fraternity in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi will observe token black day on November 3 to condemn the unconstitutional steps of former president Pervez Musharraf by sending judges of superior judiciary home through proclamation of emergency. The Supreme Court Bar Association, Rawalpindi Bar Association, Islamabad Bar Association and Islamabad High Court Bar Association.
will demonstrate briefly to highlight their struggle for restoration of deposed judges. Similarly, lawyers across the country will also observe the token black day to protest against imposition of state of emergency, suspension of human rights and removal of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. Thousands of lawyers across the country are expected to hold token protests against imposition of a six-week stint of emergency rule on November 3, 2007.
After declaring a state of emergency, former president tried to gag the independent judiciary led by Chief Justice of Pakistan and other judges whom he saw as a threat in his unconstitutional way to cling to power. The Prime Minister restored the deposed judges resulting in an end to lawyers, civil society and political forces two-year struggle, in March this year.
