NCJP urges government to promote religious tolerance

The National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) Faisalabad Chapter had urged the Government to promote religious tolerance and inter-faith harmony and Peace Committees should be made effective and functional for the promotion of inter-religious dialogue and for the elimination of religious extremism in the country.
In a 2-day training course for human rights activists at Centre for Peace and Harmony in Faisalabad, which was organised by the NCJP, Peter Jacob (Executive Secretary-NCJP), Fr Nisar Barkat (Diocesan Director-NCJP), Ms Kiran Afzaal (National Co-ordinator-HEAT Programme), Shahid Anwar (Regional Co-ordinator-HEAT Programme) addressed to the participants during training course.
The main objective of the course was to impart skills among activists for promotion and protection of human rights and to aware them about the current situation of law and order situation in the country. Fifteen human rights activists from Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, Jhang, Sahiwal and Khushpur actively participated in training course.
Fr. Nisar Barkat said that we should promote values of acceptance, peace, harmony and tolerance for the end of terrorism in the country. He emphasised the activists to enhance their efforts for the mitigation of human rights violations in the society. At this juncture, participants of the training course approved a unanimous resolution and urged the Government that:
-- All forms of discriminations existing in the constitution, laws and policies against women and religious minorities should be abolished;
-- Credible measures should be taken to protect the life and property of religious minorities in Pakistan;
-- Biases in educational syllabus on the basis of religion, sect and gender should be eradicated to protect new generation from such prejudices;
-- Human rights institutions should be established in the state for the protection and promotion of human rights.
