PTA chief sends SOS to government

Gulzar Firoz, Chairman, Pakistan Tanners Association (Central) has sent an urgent SOS to the government, particularly, the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Finance and cautioned them against serious declining export trend in leather sector in the first quarter of current fiscal year 2009.
The export of leather and its products registered decline by about 29 percent, which is very serious and alarming situation. He appealed to the Ministry of Commerce to convene a meeting urgently to discuss this serious issue. He said that the decline was most serious in finished leather, which has calculated 30 percent, 16 percent decline in leather apparel and clothing, 66 percent in leather gloves, 10 percent decline of leather footwear and some 55 percent in other leather manufacturers as the statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics.-PR
