Arts and crafts exhibitions add colours to the unique character and flavours of Islamabad. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is taking concrete measures to develop traditional arts and handicrafts in the Federal Capital so as to promote the rich traditions, culture and soft image of the country.
These views were expressed by the Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, while inaugurating two-day Arts and Handicrafts exhibition of the Saarc countries here on Thursday at Arts and Crafts Village. Artisans from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and other Saarc countries are participating in the exhibition.
Arts and Crafts organisations representing different areas of the country are also participating in the two-day colourful event. The Chairman CDA said that CDA has completed the Arts & Crafts Village at an area of 26 acres at the cost of Rs 200 million.
Chairman said that this village would provide opportunities to the artists and artisans not only from the different areas of the country but would also serve as a hub of cultural activities for the South Asian region. He said that the Arts & Craft Village has been constructed with a view to promote the indigenous arts and handicrafts and to enhance the inter-provincial harmony. He said that such exhibitions at this cultural venue would promote the soft image of the country as the foreign diplomats and other delegates would be visiting such exhibitions in the federal capital.-PR
