President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday said the political relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh needs to be translated into substantive economic and trade linkages for mutual benefit. Talking to Outgoing High Commissioner (HC) of Bangladesh Yasmeen Murshid, who paid a farewell call on him, President Zardari said Pakistan highly values its relations with Bangladesh and wishes to further enhance co-operation in all fields.
He said the present trade volume of $411 million between the two countries is much below than true potential, and urged for increasing it to the benchmark of $1 billion. He appreciated the services rendered by Yasmeen Murshid for bringing the two countries closer and strengthening the bilateral relations. He wished every success to Yasmeen Murshid in her future assignments and hoped that she being a friend of Pakistan would continue contributing towards further strengthening of Pak-Bangladesh relations. The Outgoing HC thanked the President for the support extended to her during her stay in Pakistan.
