Lasbela Chamber rejects two-day off

06 Nov, 2009

President of Lasbela Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yakoob H. Karim has criticised the government's decision to declare Saturday as an additional weekly holiday in a press release issued on Thursday. He urged the government to withdraw its decision and to take appropriate measures in consultation with the business community to address the crises due to shortage of energy.
The Chamber's Chief expressed his concern, as the additional weekly holiday would create many problems like high cost of production due to additional cost of wages, declining export order due to disturbance of production schedule, less wages to daily-wage workers creating anxiety among them and many others multiple problems besides the proportional loss of government revenue.
He proposed that to overcome the energy crises the holiday might be observed on rotational basis in different areas, instead of two weekly holidays. Yakoob H. Karim again urged the government to withdraw the above decision as it would also result in two and a half (2 1/2) holidays in a week in view of half days of banks and government offices on Fridays. -PR
