Commanders take stock of internal and external challenges

The top brass of Pakistan Army took stock of the internal and external challenges faced by the country and reiterated that the armed forces of the country "are fully capable" to meet any challenge. Military leadership met here on Wednesday in the 123rd Corps Commanders Conference at General Headquarters, with the Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvaiz Kayani, in the chair.
Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers of Pakistan Army attended the conference. The conference reviewed the security situation prevailing in the country, and the increase in terrorist activities, sources said, adding that it also discussed the situation arising after Nato forces removed the security posts from the Pak-Afghan border in the areas adjacent to South Waziristan.
The military leaders also discussed the ongoing military operation in South Waziristan Agency and expressed resolve to take this operation to its logical conclusion and eliminate terrorists. The conference expressed satisfaction on the results of the military operation against terrorists.
The Conference was a routine monthly meeting of top brass of Pakistan Army, said an ISPR handout issued after conclusion of the conference. COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in his opening remarks condemned the spate of terrorist attacks on civilians, and termed it an act of cowardice and frustration.
Terrorists in frustration are targeting the common people in different parts of the country, he said, adding that the extremism and terrorism will be rooted out from the country. He said that since terrorists were incapable of confronting the military operation, they were targeting innocent civilians.
He reaffirmed that the public could not be cowed down through such acts of terrorism rather resolve of the Nation got further strengthened to eliminate the menace of terrorism in all its forms and manifestation. The COAS also paid tributes to all officers and soldiers who have laid down their lives in our fight against terrorism.
Matters of operational preparedness and professional significance were also discussed and the participants expressed their satisfaction on the state of preparedness of the Army and successful conduct of operation Rah-e-Nijat. Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers of Pakistan Army were given a detailed briefing about the progress of the 'Operation Rah e Nijat', launched against terrorists in South Waziristan.
