World Performing Arts Festival cancelled

13 Nov, 2009

Director Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop (RPTW) Usman Peerzada has announced the cancellation of World Performing Arts Festival. The festival is the biggest cultural event being organised for the past twenty years, said Peerzada while addressing a press conference, here on Thursday. He also said that they had cancelled the festival due to the security threats and lack of funds.
He was not sure if the festival would be organised next year. "Big multinational companies have refused to invest in the festival due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the country," he said. It was very unfortunate that both provincial and federal governments had done nothing in this regard, he said.
He further said that high authorities did not even bother to answer his letters, which were written regarding the holding of the festival. "More than 160 artists promised to perform in the festival this year but unfortunately due to the present law and order situation most of them refused," he said.
