Two NWFP sugar mills to start crushing from November 15

Two sugar mills of Peshawar valley have put fire under the burners of their boilers and four other were likely to start their boilers by 15th of the current month sources in the NWFP Department of Food told Business Recorder on Thursday.
Talking to this scribe Director Food NWFP Abdul Ghafoor Baig said Premier Sugar Mills Mardan and Khazana Sugar Mills Peshawar would start sugarcane crushing from November 15 while the four sugar mills of D I Khan will start production of sugar from November 20, next.
He said that sufficient sugar is available in the market and there is no shortage of the commodity. However, he said that the starting of the crushing season would improve the supply of the commodity in the market. Meanwhile, Ration Controller, Peshawar Saleem Raza has assured a delegation of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) for provision of sugar for industrial sector in the province.
The delegation comprising of the vice president SCCI, Zulfikar Ali Khan, Irshadullah and Secretary Faqir Mohammad met the Ration Controller in his office. The Ration Controller told the delegation that the Department of Food is making efforts for assuring sufficient supply of sugar in the market. However, he said that the provision of sugar in the market at control rate is not possible.
Earlier, the delegation briefed the Ration Controller regarding problems faced by the pharmaceutical companies, confectioneries and bakeries due to unavailability of sugar in the market. They demanded provision of the 70 percent of the available sweetener to the industrial sector at control rate.
