Closure of educational institutions: LHC dismisses petition

The Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed a petition of lawyer seeking closure of all educational institutions across the country till December 31 due to security threats. The court held that court could not interfere in the policy matter of the government.
Petitioner, Ijaz Awan submitted that hundreds of innocent people have lost their lives in recent terrorism wave and terrorists even did not spare students. Petitioner stated that the Pakistani army is fighting against these terrorists to protect the country. He stated that these terrorists were particularly targeting girl schools in Swat and Northern Areas, as they are on the rampage to destroy country education and specially English medium educational institutions are also on the hit list of terrorists.
He said in order to save lives of innocent school going children the educational institution should be closed immediately for early winter vacations. Petitioner said it is not possible for state to provide security to every person or institution. He prayed to the court to issue directions to federal government to issue an order for closure of educational institutions by declaring early winter and Eid holidays.
