Inland Revenue: powers, jurisdiction of chief commissioners LTUs notified

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued powers and jurisdiction of Chief Commissioners, Inland Revenue of Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to deal with income tax, sales tax and federal excise duty related matters of big companies and corporate entities from October 28, 2009.
In this connection, the FBR has issued notification to specify powers of Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue to handle all cases of multinational companies, big commercial enterprises, business establishments and corporate entities under the new organisational structure. The FBR has also issued the names of the companies falling within the jurisdiction of LTUs of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue of Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad would be empowered to deal with the cases and persons specified in the relevant notifications, registration and de-registration under the Sales Tax Act, 1990 and Federal Excise Act, 2005 and all administrative functions and co-ordination with FBR.
The FBR has also notified powers and jurisdiction of Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue of Regional Tax Offices of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Abbotabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujranwala.
