A constitutional petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court against delay in construction of Mughalpura underpass and overhead bridge. The petitioner a bar member Muhammad Azhar Siddique, contended that construction of the overhead bridge and underpass was planned to be completed by the end of September 2009 but the construction could not be completed.
He pointed out that Chief Minister of Punjab had promised to open underpass and over-head bridge for public by November 14. Even the promise made by chief executive of the Province proved mere eyewash. The petitioner stated that health of thousands of the inhabitants of the localities is in danger due to serious environmental threats because garbage and sand was left open in the air which could cause serious skin diseases also.
He prayed the court to issue directions to authorities concerned for early completion of the Mughalpura underpass and over-head bridge by complying with international and local code and standards of construction. He also requested that appropriate directions might also be issued to the authorities concerned to save the residents of the locality from environmental threats.
