Chilean stocks closed slightly lower on losses in the commodities and consumer sectors. The country's leading stock index IPSA fell 0.2 percent to close at 3,337.07 points while the all-market IGPA closed 0.17 percent lower at 15,702.08. "We have seen a very slow market today, with little liquidity," said Hernan Guerrero, deputy director of studies at FIT Corredores de Bolsa brokerage.
"The market drop is in part explained by SQM (Soquimich), which had losses in line with that of other world fertiliser companies and commodities in general." Shares of Chile's top fertiliser company Soquimich dropped 1.52 percent to 19,452 pesos. Chile's largest brewer CCU also led losses, trading down 4.17 percent at 3,785.10 pesos Shares in conglomerate Copec, the most heavily weighted share on Chile's bourse, fell 0.70 percent to 7,249 pesos. Limiting losses was retailer La Polar, whose shares rose 1.13 percent to 2,659.90 pesos.
