Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has transferred and posted Member Domestic Operations (South) Muhammad Ramzan Bhatti as FBR member without giving any permanent assignment. In this regard, the FBR issued a notification on Wednesday saying Bhatti would work on special assignments as and when given to him by Chairman FBR.
Asrar Rauf FBR Member Direct Tax Policy has been given additional charge of Member Domestic Operations (South) with immediate effect. When contacted, sources said that the transfer of Bhatti is a routine matter, and has nothing to do with the ongoing litigation with the Customs Group Association. FBR may give some special assignment to Bhatti, who is the most senior and experienced customs official, sources added.
President of the Customs Group Association Ramzan Bhutti was working as Member Domestic Operations (South) for enforcement of the tax laws to improve revenue collection and broaden the tax-base. He has shown excellent performance in collection of federal taxes particularly sales tax and federal excise duty from the areas falling within the South jurisdiction.
The issue of revenue collection was also discussed during the last meeting of Tax Advisory Council headed by Federal Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin. Finance Minister expressed satisfaction over the current pace of revenue collection.
