Wheat will be sown on over 16.8 million acres of land during Rabi season in the wheat growing areas of Punjab. Official sources in Agriculture department told Business Recorder here on Friday that the wheat sowing had been started to meet the target of wheat cultivation. Provincial Agriculture department has evolved special strategy for enhancing the wheat crop acreage and increasing the per acre yield aimed at attaining maximum output.
The Agriculture department has also adopted modern agriculture techniques for enhancing the per acre yield as well as to attain maximum output against the target fixed for Punjab. The department would provide full assistance and guidance to the wheat growers for best output.
In Sialkot district, wheat would be cultivated over 5.21 lakh acres of land. The Agriculture department has initiated "Farmers Training Programme" in 1442 villages of Sialkot district aimed at introducing latest wheat production techniques among the growers.
The wheat sowing is in full swing in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot and so far wheat has been sown over 1.10 lakh acres in the district. Apart from this, special training would also be imparted to the growers about the utilisation of pesticides, fertilisers, natural cultivation techniques and seeds at village level in Sialkot.
As many as 45 teams of agriculture department were visiting villages for creating awareness about the proper use of fertiliser, irrigation and pesticides among the wheat growers. The department has asked the growers to use only the recommended and authenticated wheat seeds for attaining better output. Over13, 80,000 bags of wheat seeds of different verities are available at Punjab Seed Corporation's outlets and depot in the province.
