Overcoming problem of students riding on rooftops: ITP urges parents, college administration and transporters to cooperate

Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has urged the parents, college administration and representatives of public transport to cooperate in overcoming the problem of students riding on rooftops of public transport.
"It is imperative to devise a strategy to assure the students' concession and institutions must issue cards and public facilitate students," said Dr Moeen Masood, SSP, Islamabad Traffic Police here on Tuesday during a meeting of colleges vice principals, Directors Education, Secretary Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA), representatives of Public Transporters and ITP Officers.
The meeting was attended by Dr Mujeeb Usman, Director Education (Model Colleges), Mumtaz Ali, Director Education (Colleges), Shazia Gul Director FG Colleges for Women, Vice Principals of H-8 and H-9 Colleges, DSP Traffic Chaudhry Arshad Ali, Asia Gul, Secretary ITA and representatives of public transport unions.
With mutual understanding between college administration, parents and representatives of public transport unions a reasonable fare for the students be fixed to resolve this problem, posing threat to precious lives of students, Dr Masood said.
He divulged that the climbing on roof tops of Buses by the students is not only caused inconvenience to the public but a constant danger to their lives and it enhanced while these buses beneath high power electricity cables, therefore, there is a dire need to eradicate this problem.
He stressed upon the participants that every stakeholder has to play his effective role to come over the problem and for its resolution close liaison among college administration, parents and representatives of public transport union for fixation of suitable fare for the students. He said that traffic education campaign is being started in the colleges to create traffic awareness among the students.
