In order to keep environment safe on Eid days, butchers should be trained in a way that they could manage the animals waste and draining off their blood after slaughtering them, said an expert on Thursday. Lack of adequate slaughterhouses and arrangements for disposal of waste material are the major problems faced every year.
Most of the families drain off the sacrificial animals' blood into the common drainage, which may clog the entire drainage system. "Moreover, the waste of the animal left in the open for days may turn these areas into breeding ground for epidemic outbreak", said, Dr Sajjad Raza, a Senior Pathologist told newsmen.
He suggested that as an alternative, the housing societies could solve the problem by reserving the space in their large compound for the purpose and taking care of the waste disposal.
"The real problem was faced by the congested middle-class localities. Few of the residents keep their animals at safe places keeping in mind that it should not decay the environment," he said. Syed Zia, a timber merchant who sacrificed seven animals at every Eid was pained to watch the women of the household struggling to clean the blood and disposing off the waste.
"Combined Qurbani is a concept which is not only permitted in Islam, but also becoming popular in Gulf countries", he said. "This concept should also be followed in our country at community level", he remarked.
Dr Asad Mirza, a general practitioner in Raja Bazar told that every year after Eid-ul-Azha, there was at least 30 to 35 percent increase in the cases of diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid and malaria. Qaim Siddique, who is running a social welfare group, is organising combined Qurbani since the last five years. Last year, he said the total booking was 258. The majority of people who opted for combined Qurbani were from the lower and the middle class.
Since "According to Islam", a single animal such as a Cow can have seven shares, offering such facilities of combined Qurbani helped the lower class to offer Qurbani. He said the concept of collective Qurbani not only saved the expenditure, but it also played a role to save the environment and make it friendly for all.
