US MIDDAY: coffee climbs, sugar falls

01 Dec, 2009

Summaries of the ICE Futures US cocoa, coffee and sugar markets early on Monday. March arabica coffee contract rose 3.15 cents to $1.4120 per lb at 11:00 am EST (1600 GMT). Session range from $1.3865 to $1.4165. Arabica coffee futures bounced as longs who liquidated Friday returned to the market, and quality concerns in top producer Brazil and the weak dollar attracted buyers, said brokers.
March raw sugar contract was down 0.30 cent at 22.47 cents per lb at 11:01 am. Trading range from 22.37 to 23 cents. Sugar sagged on investor sales, but volume of business was light as trade came out of long Thanksgiving holiday break, said traders. Benchmark March cocoa contract dipped $2 to $3,270 per tonne at 11:01 am. Trading band from $3,253 and $3,320. US cocoa little changed in thin, choppy dealings influenced by the London market as Liffe December options expire, said traders.
