KCCI for setting up 'US Economic Zone' at Karachi

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday suggested setting up of 'US Economic Zone' in the vicinity of Karachi. In a communication, KCCI President Abdul Majid Haji Mohammad cited Pakistan-Japan Economic Co-operation Zone, which is also being set up in Karachi.
Under the supervision of Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Investment, Zubair Motiwala, Sindh government is implementing the plan under an agreement with the government of Japan. In the planned Pak-Japan Economic Zone, the Japanese companies will carry out their activities within the zone encircled with protected boundary wall and the Sindh government will provide security along with investment-friendly environment, he added.
He suggested that in line with Pak-Japan Economic Zone, a Pak-US Economic Zone should also be set up. He stressed the need for providing Pakistan preferential market access to the US, technology transfer, uplift of the agriculture sector with provision of advanced US technology He urged the US administration to issue positive travel advisory for Pakistan and help shun the negative/biased reporting of some foreign media about Pakistan.
