'The Asia Group' has unanimously endorsed the candidature of Pakistan for the post of Vice President of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) paving way for Abdullah Hussain Haroon to assume the important assignment in 2010, says a press release received from New York here on Wednesday.
Abdullah Hussain Haroon who is Pakistan's permanent representative to the UN, is playing a leading role in revitalising 'The Asia Group' with the objective of making it an effective body. He left no stone unturned to enable its members to forge unified positions on global issues of mutual interests.
In recognition of his efforts 'The Asia Group' elected him as its convenor last month. The election of Pakistan to such coveted UN body in such a short span of time is not only a recognition of its world-wide growing prestige but also a testimony of the positive role played by Haroon at various fora of the United Nations.-PR
