This refers to a letter captioned 'FBR's new ad' published in your esteemed paper on November 27, 2009. In the letter, the writer has called into question the use of what he calls the intimidating tone and tenor applied in the sentence 'everyone has to pay taxes' in an FBR's advertisement published in a section of the press.
The writer contends that the language of the advertisement is threatening and it does not sync with the FBR's pleadings, applied in earlier advertisements, to urge taxpayers to deposit their taxes. The fact is that the FBR has all along demonstrated its commitment to the taxpayers and the current campaign that comes on the heels of a similar month-long campaign that continued until September 30 and was further extended up to October 20, requesting non-filers to file their tax returns, is a continuation of its efforts.
Following the completion of the earlier two rounds of the campaign, the FBR received a considerably positive response and a large number of taxpayers filed their returns. However, there are still many, as per data available with the FBR, who despite their falling in the tax zone have not submitted their returns and paid taxes which the writer duly calls a national duty.
The current campaign is meant for facilitating such non-filers, who are being given yet another opportunity to realise their national duty and contribute towards the revenue generation the country badly needs, given the financial constraints and fiscal deficit it faces.
