Bomb alert empties French parliament

03 Dec, 2009

A bomb alert forced the French parliament to be evacuated on Wednesday, after environmental campaigners stormed the building and one abseiled into the debating chamber. It was not immediately clear whether the alert was linked to the protest by the Greenpeace campaign group, which called for action against global warming at this month's key world climate summit.
A parliament source said a telephone call was received warning of a bomb in the debating chamber. Guards searched the parliament but no suspicious packages were immediately reported to have been found.
