Over 2,358 beneficiaries: Rs 60 billion loans written off in Musharraf era

Over 2,358 people had got Rs 60 billion loans, taken from different banks and financial institutions, written off during Pervez Musharraf regime (1999 to 2008). Those who got benefited included politicians, retired generals and businessmen as National Bank of Pakistan had written off Rs 23.594 billion of 1,086 people.
Saudi Pak Investment Rs 462 million of 31 persons, Pak Libya Holding Company Rs 1.394 billion of 46 persons, First Women Bank Rs 12 million of 6 women, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Rs 7.560 billion of 883 persons and SME Bank Rs 1.228 billion of 205 people. Bank of Khyber had written off Rs 1.124 billion of 26 persons and Bank of Punjab Rs 608 million of 75 persons.
Federal Minister for Industries and Production Mian Muhammad Manzoor Wattoo had got Rs 2.9 million written off, Senator Haroon Akhtar Rs 110 million, Jam Madad Ali opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Rs 1.5 million, Haleem Adil Sheikh of PML-Q from Sindh Rs 8 million, Nawab of Kalabagh late Malik Allah Yar Rs 103 million, actress Samina Pirzada Rs 1.7 million and Mian Shuja-ur-Rehman, Punjab Minister Rs 768 million.
Major General Abdul Qayyum (Retd) had got Rs 900 million written off, Major General Farhat Ali Khan Bokhari (Retd) Rs 918 million, Yousuf Saigol and his colleagues Rs 945 million, Noor Muhammad son of Muhammad Hussain Rs 90 million, Mian Muhammad Sugar Mills Rs 584 million, Jam Sher Ali and his family Rs 484 million, Noor Match Factory Rs 20.1 million, Makran Fisheries Rs 90.6 million, Fauji Cement Rs 50.7 million and Amra Textile Raiwind Mills Rs 6 million.
Khurshid Ahmed Khosa had got Rs 0.5 million written off, Bhatti Foods Industries Rs 248 million, Riaz Ahmed Mian of Fruits Limited Rs 242 million, Malik Foods Rs 367 million, Qamar Ahmed of General Diaries Rs 246 million, Ikramullah Rs 230 million, Kashmir Oil Rs 317 million, Khawaja Kabir Ahmed Rs 217 million, Abdul Raziq of Fateh Textile Mills Rs 353 million, Muhammad Rafi of Bashir Cotton Mills Gulberg Rs 111 million, North Textile Rs 1387 million, Haji Mehboob Ali of Rubi Textile Mills Rs 128 million, S S Oils Rs 372 million and Habibullah Khan of Standardised Foods Kasur, Rs 160 million. According to National Assembly Secretariat documents, a total of Rs 104,850 million loans were written off during 1999 while Rs 309,190 million during 2000.
