Senator Haroon Akhtar has said that his family has not got loan written off from any bank. Addressing a press conference, here on Monday he said loans against his family business were cleared in accordance with the policy of the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) and the orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
According to him, the bank had circulated a policy that any loan can be cleared with 100 percent additional payment, which was followed by his family and the loans were cleared accordingly. He said that his family had taken a loan of Rs 88,479,000 (over Rs 80.84 million) from the bank for sugar mill, which was cleared after a payment of Rs 178,958,000 (Over 178.95 million). He said that the bank had issued the policy, which was availed by the lenders across the board.
He further said that his brother Humayun Akhtar Khan never exerted his influence to get loan written off during his tenure as minister. "Humayun neither influenced anyone nor deviated from the bank policy during his tenure as minister," he said.
