The rupee was lower against dollar, it however, gained modestly versus euro on the currency market on Friday, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee shed five paisa at 83.60 and 83.65 in relation to dollar for buying and selling, they said.
In the final Asian trade dollar dipped against yen as traders took profits on the greenback's sharp rebound from a recent 14-year trough ahead of the US government's monthly employment report later in the day.

However, some moneychangers quoted Rs 83.35, as dollar's buying rate while the selling rate was same at most of the money exchanges. Similarly, the rupee showed stability and stayed unchanged against the British pound. The pound commenced trading at last day closing of Rs 137.00 and Rs 138.20, on buying and selling counters respectively. The opening rates continued to prevail throughout the day, the dealers said.
Pound sterling opened at Rs 137 (buying) and Rs 137.10 (selling) against last rate of Rs 135.20 (buying) and Rs 135.30 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 137 (buying) and Rs 137.10 (selling).
