The Punjab Food Minister has constituted a high-level committee to review the prevailing flour prices and flourmills association's demand to increase the flour prices. According to a spokesman of the food department the flourmills association had requested to increase flour bag prices due to various reasons.
The Minister who was hospitalised on Friday after an accident met the association people in the hospital and constituted a committee to review all the factors to ascertain whether to increase the prices or not. This committee will also hold negotiations with the flour-millers.
It is expected that the negotiations would resume on this demand from Monday (December 07, 2009) when the flour-millers would present their point of view to advocate a rise in the flour prices, the spokesman hoped. Punjab Secretary Food, Tahir Raza Naqvi, Additional Secretary Food Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad, Director Food Muhammad, Sheharyar Sultan and office-bearers of the flourmills association were also present at the meeting which minister convened in the hospital, the spokesman concluded.
