GCU Lahore staging play 'Kamraa'

05 Dec, 2009

Government College University Lahore Dramatics Club (GCUDC) is staging the play "Kamraa", an Urdu Adaptation of Manuel de Pedrolo's play Tecnica de Cambra (The Room), from December 6-8, 2009 at the university's Bokhari Auditorium. The play is a global allegory expressing a reflection on the reality of our existence.
The desire for power is the key element in the play that is inherent in human nature and the consequences that come along the process. How we spend our entire life pursuing materialistic goals, is what the play reflects, which ultimately when attained seem meaningless.
The plot revolves around a list of seven characters, who end up in a room. How they make alliances and develop hostility against each other in the pursuit of power and materialistic desires is the question that the play answers. The microcosm of life and conflicts are played out in the compass of this ordinary room. The purpose of life and its reality in its entirety is portrayed with a more abstract and absurdist tinge.
The cast of the play includes Usman Mumtaz Butt, Afsheen Farooq, Rida Akram, Zohrain Bhaur, Maham Naz, Ali Sher and Faizan Ahmed Riaz. The Play is directed by Moosa Abbas, President GCUDC. The tickets for the play are being sold on the university campus. The Dramatics Club had last year presented "Be Saya Log" an Urdu adaptation of Jean Paul Sartre's masterpiece (Men without Shadows), which had met with a loud applause by the people from all walks of life.-PR
