08 Dec, 2009

The Executive Board of National Highway Authority (NHA), which met with Chairman NHA Altaf Ahmed Chaudhry in the chair here on Monday, approved new projects to develop Multan City including Multan Inner Ring Road and construction of flyovers at Jinnah Chowk and Rasheedabad Chowk.
Giving details of these projects, the Chairman NHA said that these were part of Prime Minister's Southern Punjab Development Package, adding that PC-1 of these projects was Rs 6.4 billion. He said the government had already allocated Rs 3 billion for the current financial year while the remaining amount was expected to be allocated next year. These projects would be completed in a record one-year time, he added.
He informed the meeting that due to poor road condition and its geometry, the traffic flow on Multan Inner Ring Road was badly affected and remained choked for hours resulting in not only wasting the commuters' precious time but also increasing vehicle operating cost. He said with the completion of these projects, the overall traffic flow in and around Multan city would greatly improve.
The NHA Member, Finance Junaid Qureshi, Member Operations Raja Nousherwan, Member Planning, S. A. Latif, Member Motorway Ashfak Jumani, Member Construction Mir Hassan Rind and representatives from Finance Division, Planning Commission, NESPAK and Ministry of Communications attended the meeting.
